How We Edit Each Photo: It's more than Just a Filter

Many people think that photo editing is just slapping a filter over an image, but we are here to share that it is so much more than that!

Our editing process is intentional--starting before we even press the shutter button. Here's a look at how we craft each image--from in camera, to final edit.

It all starts in the camera, where we frame with purpose. Composition is key to an interesting photo: we position subjects and backgrounds carefully. These thoughtful angles create the depth and storytelling that you can't get back through editing, if you missed them in camera.

We always look for flattering light--golden hour, open shade, and dramatic backlighting can give photos the "pop" that you're hoping for. (And we also take care of adjusting exposure in-camera to capture the best details, even before we edit. Ex. shooting in RAW and adjusting the white balance to our setting.)

We also fully believe in cropping for maximum impact. We try to remove any distractions to draw attention straight to the subject.

Our next step is to go over light adjustments, and enhance, rather than overpower, what is already there. We carefully adjust the highlights and shadows for depth and realism. This gives us the ability to ensure the true-to-life look without over-editing.  

Then, we enhance either the warm or cool tones to evoke emotion. All the while we keep correcting skin tones to ensure a natural, glowing result.

Before our final polish, we add some sharpening and clarity. We enhance textures, while still keeping the natural tones--nothing ends up looking artificial. We retouch with a light hand--we will gladly remove small blemishes or flyaway hairs, but we will never alter what makes someone unique.

For the final polish, we create cohesion and mood. We apply our signature editing style while staying true to *your* moment. Then we ensure each photo fits seamlessly into your full gallery.
